A next-generation antioxidant for premium photoaging and environmental-stress skin-care formulations. Acetyl Zingerone is a multifunctional phenolic antioxidant designed around the zingerone scaffold. This 98% white powder gives formulators a concentrated active for serums, creams, emulsions and advanced antioxidant systems where visible photoaging, uneven tone and oxidative-stress defense are key product goals.
- 98% Acetyl Zingerone powder for professional cosmetic formulation.
- Human vehicle-controlled evidence supports visible improvement in wrinkles, pigmentation and redness at 1% topical use. [R3]
- Mechanistic research supports free-radical control, singlet-oxygen quenching and photostability. [R6]

Key Benefits
Supports visible photoaging improvement — In a randomized double-blind vehicle-controlled study, a 1% Acetyl Zingerone cream used twice daily for eight weeks significantly improved wrinkle severity/volume, pigment intensity and redness compared with vehicle. [R3]
Provides multi-pathway antioxidant defense — In-vitro research shows free-radical scavenging, singlet-oxygen quenching, peroxynitrite scavenging and reduction of UVA-induced intracellular ROS. [R6]
Adds photostable antioxidant support — Acetyl Zingerone showed greater molecular photostability than α-tocopherol in a solar-simulated UV study, supporting use in day-care and photoaging-focused formulas. [R6]
Supports extracellular-matrix-focused anti-aging concepts — Reconstructed-skin and enzyme research reported MMP inhibition and favorable modulation of genes related to extracellular-matrix integrity. [R7]
Fits advanced antioxidant + vitamin C systems — A randomized study using 1% AZ with 5% tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate reported better wrinkle, pigment and redness outcomes than THDA alone. [R4]
Why Formulators Choose Acetyl Zingerone
Acetyl Zingerone is unusual among cosmetic antioxidants because it combines a defined small-molecule identity with both mechanistic and human clinical data. It is also positioned around photostability and several reactive-species pathways rather than a single radical-scavenging mechanism. For formulators, the practical challenge is phase design: the powder should be completely solubilized in a compatible oil/solvent architecture rather than treated as a simple water-soluble active.
Typical Applications
- Premium antioxidant serums and emulsions
- Photoaging and environmental-stress facial care
- Day creams and antioxidant-support sunscreen-adjacent formulas
- Uneven-tone and visible-redness appearance products
- Vitamin C derivative / multi-antioxidant systems
- Well-aging creams focused on texture, firmness and radiance
Quick Formulation Guide
|
Parameter |
Typical Formulation Guidance |
|
Use Level |
A 1% topical Acetyl Zingerone formulation has direct randomized vehicle-controlled human evidence for visible photoaging improvement. [R3] Treat 1% as an evidence-backed reference point, not a universal requirement;. |
|
Solubility / Phase |
Do not treat Acetyl Zingerone as a simple water-soluble powder. Use a compatible solvent, ester or oil/solvent system and verify complete dissolution before final emulsification or cool-down. |
|
Processing |
Maintain complete dissolution and avoid unnecessary prolonged heat. [R8] |
|
Compatibility |
Acetyl Zingerone can be paired with lipophilic vitamin C derivatives and other antioxidants, but validate the complete redox system rather than assuming automatic synergy. |
|
Photoprotection |
Acetyl Zingerone can support photoaging-defense concepts, but it is not a UV filter and does not replace sunscreen or SPF validation. |
|
Packaging |
Light-limiting and low-air-exposure packaging. |

Scientific Evidence Snapshot
Acetyl Zingerone has an unusually useful evidence ladder for a cosmetic antioxidant. In a randomized double-blind vehicle-controlled clinical study, 31 participants used a 1% AZ cream or vehicle twice daily for eight weeks; the AZ group showed significant reductions in wrinkle severity, wrinkle volume, pigment intensity and redness versus vehicle. [R3] A second randomized double-blind study found that adding 1% AZ to 5% tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate improved wrinkle severity, facial pigment and redness compared with THDA alone. [R4] Mechanistic studies support ROS control, singlet-oxygen quenching, photostability and reduction of delayed UV-induced DNA photoproduct formation. [R6] These data support next-generation antioxidant/photoaging positioning, but they do not make AZ a sunscreen, DNA-repair drug or substitute for finished-product UV protection.
