Key Benefits

Visible Fine-Line & Wrinkle Support. Bakuchiol has been studied in finished topical formulations for improving visible signs associated with photoaging, including wrinkle measurements. In a 12-week randomized comparison, a 0.5% bakuchiol cream improved wrinkle surface area alongside a retinol comparator [R3].

More Even-Looking Tone. Clinical research has reported improvements in hyperpigmentation measures with bakuchiol-containing formulations, supporting its use in products designed for a more even-looking complexion [R2–R3].

Firmness & Elasticity Positioning. Earlier work linking bakuchiol with retinol-like gene-expression patterns and collagen-related markers supports development of age-support products focused on firmer, more resilient-looking skin [R2].

Texture & Radiance-Oriented Formulas.
Bakuchiol fits premium serums, creams and facial oils where the product brief centers on smoother-looking texture and a refined overall appearance.

Why Formulators Choose Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is a well-defined meroterpene phenol rather than a generic “bakuchi” or “babchi” botanical extract. That distinction matters when you need repeatable dosing, a clear INCI identity and a high-active raw material for controlled formulation. Its hydrophobic character makes it especially practical for oil-rich systems and emulsion oil phases, while published studies give product developers an evidence base for responsible age-support and tone-focused cosmetic claims [R2–R3].

Typical Applications

  • Facial oils & anhydrous serums: Directly compatible with oil-based systems after confirming complete-formula stability.
  • Creams & lotions: Incorporate through the oil phase; validate emulsion stability, pH and packaging.
  • Night or day serums: Useful for age-support, tone and texture-focused positioning.
  • Balms & sticks: Suitable where an oil-soluble active is preferred.
  • Premium moisturizers: Adds a recognizable active story backed by published cosmetic research.

Quick Formulation Guide

Parameter

Typical Formulation Guidance

Typical use level

0.5–1.0% of the finished formula is a commonly cited working range for highly purified bakuchiol grades [R4–R5].

Phase / solubility

Hydrophobic and oil-soluble. Add to an anhydrous oil system or the oil phase of an emulsion[R4–R5].

Finished-product pH

For water-containing formulas, keep the finished system acidic; guidance for comparable high-purity grades generally specifies below pH 6.5 [R4–R5].

Alkali compatibility

Avoid strong hydroxide systems such as sodium or potassium hydroxide because bakuchiol is a phenolic compound [R4].

Metal-ion management

Iron or copper ions can contribute to color changes; comparable-grade guidance recommends a suitable chelating strategy and controlled raw materials [R4–R5].

Processing

Minimize unnecessary prolonged heat

Packaging

For finished formulas, opaque and/or air-restrictive packaging is commonly recommended to support product integrity [R4–R5].

Quality & Supply Considerations

For procurement or scale-up, verify the current lot’s assay, appearance, identity, storage requirements and any relevant impurity limits against the supplier specification or COA before manufacturing. If your project has a target use level, market, packaging system or regulatory requirement, include those details in your document or bulk-quote request so the grade can be evaluated against the actual formulation brief.

Why Source From Us

  1. Start with samples scale to bulk orders – one supplier from trial to production: Validate with lab samples, then scale to commercial volumes – same quality, same team. No re-qualification, no project delays.
  2. Formulation support that actually helps – not just a data sheet: We give you hands-on guidance on solubility, temperature, pH, and compatibility. A real formulation partner, not a catalog.
  3. Reliable supply chain – consistent quality, on-time delivery, batch after batch: Own manufacturing facilities plus long-term partnerships with audited upstream producers ensure batch-to-batch consistency. Full documentation with every shipment. No "sample passes, bulk fails"
  4. Export-ready documentation – compliance, customs, cleared:Complete technical documentation packages – COA, MSDS, TDS, stability data – batch-specific and regulatory-ready. We handle the paperwork so your compliance and procurement teams can focus on formulation

Why It Pairs Well

Product Concept

Compatibility Note

Niacinamide

Adds barrier-support, tone and skin-comfort positioning to a broader age-support formula.

Bakuchiol + niacinamide emulsion serum

Niacinamide is water-soluble while bakuchiol is oil-soluble; manage separate phases and final pH.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

Fits antioxidant-focused oil phases and helps round out lipid-rich product concepts.

Facial oil or rich night serum

Confirm antioxidant system, sensory profile and full-formula stability.

Squalane

Provides a lightweight emollient vehicle well suited to oil-soluble actives.

Minimalist anhydrous bakuchiol serum

Validate clarity, oxidation control and packaging.

Ceramides

Supports barrier-focused moisturizers that combine age-support and conditioning cues.

Barrier + age-support cream

Ceramide delivery systems vary; follow supplier-specific incorporation instructions.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate

Oil-soluble vitamin C derivative suitable for brightening/antioxidant-oriented premium systems.

Oil serum for tone + visible aging support

Validate oxidative stability and packaging; do not assume universal synergy.

Scientific Evidence Snapshot

Bakuchiol has been investigated as a functional retinol alternative even though it is structurally different from retinoids. A 2014 study reported retinol-like gene-expression patterns and collagen-related activity, followed by visible improvements in a finished-product case study [R2]. A later randomized, double-blind 12-week study in 44 participants compared 0.5% bakuchiol cream used twice daily with 0.5% retinol cream used daily. Both groups showed significant reductions in wrinkle surface area and hyperpigmentation; the retinol group reported more scaling and stinging [R3]. These findings support responsible cosmetic formulation positioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Bakuchiol the same as bakuchi or babchi oil?

No. This SKU is a 98% Bakuchiol raw material. Bakuchi/babchi oil is a botanical oil that can contain variable levels of bakuchiol and other naturally occurring constituents.

Is Bakuchiol water-soluble?

No. High-purity bakuchiol is hydrophobic and is normally incorporated into an oil phase, anhydrous system or a properly emulsified/solubilized system [R4–R5].

What use level should I start with?

For comparable high-purity grades, 0.5–1.0% of the finished formulation is a commonly cited working range [R4–R5]. Start from the current grade documentation and validate your full formula.

Can I add it directly to a water serum?

Not without an appropriate delivery system. Direct addition to water is not recommended because bakuchiol is not water-soluble. Use an oil phase or a properly designed emulsification/solubilization approach.

What pH is suitable?

For water-containing finished formulas, comparable-grade guidance generally recommends an acidic system below pH 6.5 [R4–R5]. The final pH must also work with your preservative and other actives.

Can Bakuchiol be used with niacinamide?

They can be considered in the same formulation concept, but they live in different phases: niacinamide is water-soluble and bakuchiol is oil-soluble. Build and test the complete system rather than relying on simple direct mixing.

Is Bakuchiol “the same as retinol”?

No. Bakuchiol is structurally different. Research has found some retinol-like biological and cosmetic effects, including a randomized comparison of finished 0.5% creams, but they are different ingredients with different formulation behavior [R2–R3].

Can I apply the 98% raw material directly to skin?

No. This is a concentrated cosmetic raw material intended for measured formulation and finished-product testing, not undiluted direct application.

Can I buy a small quantity before ordering bulk?

Yes, the recommended pack architecture includes practical paid trial sizes. For commercial quantities, request a bulk quote with your target quantity, destination and specification requirements.
